SKITS started off the new year with a brand new STEM Camp for students to learn more about chemistry! Elementary schoolers were able to better understand concepts like density, chemical reactions, and chemical bonds through fun experiments they could all try out on their own.

The first class of the STEM Camp was hosted on January 10th. Students got to explore the topic of density through a density rainbow activity. In this hands-on experiment, students were given honey, dish soap, water, vegetable oil, and a bottle. They were then tasked to put all the liquids into the bottle in a specific order and then mix. After mixing, students could then see how all the liquids were arranged, seeing the concept of density first-hand!

The second class was hosted on February 28th. In this class, students learned about the different gas laws regarding pressure, temperature, and volume. The hands-on experiement used materials like a water balloon in a flask, a candle, and water. It helped to show the students how these different gas laws could impact the world around us!

The third class will be hosted on March 28th and will be covering the topic of chemical bonds. Don't miss it!
